Borrowing and Loan Policy

The following borrowing and loan policy will apply to all library materials  borrowed by registered OWWL patrons using the Livonia Public Library:

Registration:

New patrons registering for a library card must present proof of identification and valid address. They are issued a plastic barcoded card which may be used at any participating OWWL library.

Children  6 and older may register for a library card.

Patrons must bring their card with them each time to borrow materials. The staff may make exceptions at their discretion for patrons who can supply satisfactory identification.

There is a $1.00 fee for replacement of lost card.

Loan Period:

Library materials (except videos/DVDs) circulate on a three-week loan period. Due dates are 3 weeks from the date borrowed.

Initial loan period may be extended upon request of patron for a longer period. The library materials covered under the three-week loan period include books, paperback books, magazines, audiocassettes and CD's, music CD's and nonfiction videos.  Video's and DVD's are loaned on a 3 day basis and may be renewed twice.

Borrowing Restrictions:

Patrons may borrow as many items as desired (except videos/DVDs) unless one of the following conditions apply:

1.

If the patron has excessive fines totaling over $5.00, then borrowing is suspended.

2.

Patrons may not borrow items if 5 or more items are overdue.

Reserves and Renewals:

Renewal of material may be done by telephone or online.

Materials may only be renewed a maximum of 2 times.

Reserved materials may not be renewed.

Patrons may reserve their own materials using the OWWL Access or may request reserves from the staff.  There is a $1.00 per item fee if item is not picked up at the library within 7 days after notification by library that the material is ready.

Patrons may manage their account through OWWL Access by using their PIN and library card number .

Fines:

Fines are: $.10 per day for most circulating materials. Overdue fines for video's/DVDs are $1.00 per day per item, and $1.00 per item if not rewound.

Patrons may not borrow items if fines exceed $5.00.

Overdues:

Overdue notices are mailed out after library materials are 2 weeks overdue. A second notice is mailed after 4 weeks. A third notice mailed out after 7 weeks serves as the billing notice listing prices of materials.

Videos:

Patrons aged 14 and over may borrow videos.

Patrons may borrow 5 videos per family.
